Master Planning

Our experience in synagogue planning, renovation and design dates back to the 1970’s and our understanding of the tradition and the process have tempered a reality based design philosophy that is both respectful of tradition as well as evolving in contemporary society. As the needs assessment and programming phase evolve, Michael Landau Architects examines the opportunities and challenges presented by the project site. Multiple design strategies are developed for meeting the congregation’s programmatic needs, functional activities, cost and intangibles on the site. Simple building diagrams locate key functions relative to parking, circulation, access, daylight, orientation and zoning requirements. These options are reviewed with the client to determine what options meet the project goals. Michael Landau Architects also studies each project with the comprehensive understanding of future needs. Many long-range needs are common to many congregations such as additional parking, storm water control, and future program expansion. Our experience and expertise allows a congregation to move ahead with confidence that in meeting current needs the site will also be able to accommodate future growth.
